Is Celebrity philanthropy a new trend or an other way to get publicity?

I APPLAUD those famous celebrities who travel the world to help raise awareness for those less fortunate than us. But isn’t a starving homeless child in their own country just as important? PLEASE DON’T GET CRAZY WITH YOUR ANSWERS! This question wasn’t meant to stir your emotions. I just want to know what you think.

I respect the celebrities that do it, but don’t have a caravan of cameras and media showing up to document it. Those are true philantrophists – like Paul Newman and the summer camp for sick children he established many years ago.
