We’ve been on two Celebrity cruises, both on the Century. It’s not a gigantic ship but we absolutely loved it. The food was fabulous, the service was beyond anything I could have expected. At 4pm they open up the dessert bar I think on deck 11? My friend and I would get our dessert and sit at the back of the boat and watch the water. We went to Cozumel and the Grand Cayman Island the first time. We had bought the Eastern Caribbean cruise but thanks to a hurricane convention, we were sent over to the Western side. Because we had bought the insurance, we received $250 per person to spend on board as we wanted and 50% off our next cruise. The Eastern was definitely our favorite. St Maarten and St. Thomas as soooo beautiful. The only port we didn’t really care for was Nassau. The locals are a little too boisterous for me. On a scale of 1-10 I would give it a 9.5. In October we are going on Princess Cruise Lines and I’m hoping it will be as nice as Celebrity. Have a wonderful trip.
I have been on that ship, and would not choose to go again. First, the day we boarded, there was nobody to show anybody to a cabin, and when we finally found ours the air conditioner did not work. We and the butler both called for repair, and they sent a couple of guys who puttzed around and said there was nothing they could do. There was no other cabin available for us. The air conditioner was finally repaired two days later, but only after my sister filed a formal complaint with the Purser, and (not knowing she did that) I did, too. The "customer service" lady first tried to tell me nobody had reported any problem and then tried to blow it off as an unreasonable request even though it was 92 degrees in the cabin according to the ship’s thermometer (thanks to the butler!). And that made me angry. I told them that there were engineers on that ship who could repair anything, that it wasn’t as though they went home at night, and that I was certain that if it were the Captain’s cabin or the cabin of any senior officer or the Hotel Manager or the Executive Chef or the Purser that it would have been repaired properly and promptly. I also asked to speak to both the Purser and the Hotel Manager personally, which seemed to get some action at last.
The food on board was very good, but the service in the dining room was very, very slow — 2 1/2 to 3 hours for dinner at late seating is way too long! I imagine that has been speeded up by now, though. But it was delicious!
The pools are both on the same deck, cheek to jowl, so the crowd is concentrated. Both are salt water pools.
The air conditoning problem and the S-L-O-W dining room really had a negative impact on our overall experience with that ship, but with the exception of the snotty "customer service" woman and the first two "repairmen" the crew was top-notch.
By the way, be careful on the marble staircase! The day before we left the ship I fell down several steps and wound up with 2 sprained ankles, 1 sprained knee, 1 broken foot, and 3 cracked vertebrae! It was a stupid accident, of course, but the medical personnel were very nice, and according to my orthopod back home they did an excellent job reading the x-rays and setting my foot. Also, they had the tourism/departure folks notify everybody so the airport/security/airline were ready to help me fly home without trouble.
Oh — we were in the Eastern Caribbean.
As to my personal preferences for cruise companies, Cunard is my absolute favorite, but I also enjoy Princess, Holland America, and Costa.
We did our first Celebrity cruise on the Century and liked it so much that we did the exact same cruise the next year. However, that was before it was refurbished and the T-pool taken out. The T-pool was one of my favorite things about the ship!
The food and service were both very good at that time.
We visited Ocho Rios, Cozumel, Grand Cayman and Key West.
i went on century in april of 2007. it’s a very nice ship and the service is great. i personally liked the food better on carnival. went to key west and cozumel.
