Is maldives any fun for a man traveling alone on business?
I travel to asia frequently and I’m considering a side trip to maldives. I love to snorkel and swim, however i’m concerned that maldives will be too romantic… i don’t want to be surrounded by mushy newlyweds. Are there any nightlife/bar areas where I could hang out in the evenings?
Any particular hotels recommended for a middle aged guy to people watch? I love Phuket, Bangkok, etc.

I used to live in the Maldives, and visited tourist islands, Male the capital and Hulhule the airport island.
If you go to an island such as Kurumba, Paradise Island, Bandos Island, (these are all quite close to the airport island) these do not perhaps have such a romantic feel about them, as say some of the smaller islands. Therefore, you could go off snorkeling ect. All the islands offer room service. The Maldives generally is not a happening place, and nightlife is very much focussed around the islands, so it does tend to be quite quiet. Male the capital does not have any bars, due to the religion, and Hulhule, the airport island, has just one hotel, with a bar area, but not the best place to be as a base for a holiday, as it tends to be for one night stays…..
If you are happy with your own company, then go for it. If nightlife, and socialising are important to you, then this is perhaps not the destination for you.
Alternatively, why not combine Sri Lanka and the Maldives together……
