Sydney is an expensive city. Most of the interesting attractions, like the Australian Museum and the Sydney Tower, are paid. So I decided to go on a bicycle ride around the city to show the top 10 best FREE tourist attractions in Sydney. In my opinion, they are (NOT in preferred order): 1. The Sydney Parks (Hyde Park, Moore Park, Victoria Park) 2. St Mary’s Cathedral 3. New South Wales Art Gallery 4. Royal Botanic Garden 5. Museum of Contemporary Art 6. The Rocks District 7. Sydney Harbour Bridge 8. Luna Park 9. Australian National Maritime Museum 10. Darling Harbour As a bonus, there are some other minor free attractions as well: – Customs House – Sydney Observatory – Town Hall – Sydney Beaches Check out my videos if you want to see more of these places, especially the “Free Sydney Walking Tour” series. On another “Sydney by Bike”, I cross the Harbour Bridge cycling. And I just want to mention that some of these attraction I show are not 100% free. For example, the entry to the Town Hall and the Art Gallery is free but they may charge a fee for special exhibitions. For the Luna Park and Sydney Observatory, only the entry is free. The Maritime Museum is free but not the ships. So my advice is to check their websites before you go. The Wikitravel is also very helpful. Could a rich bunch of developers (for example) those involved in the current Dubai development get together and create a city like Las Vegas in the middle of Australia where it is all desert and not close to a water supply. What problems would they face to set up infrastructure there like water supply, power? Would it be hard to gain permission to do this from Government and others in charge? Would there be a massive load of people for and against? For those against, would the fact that it was all constructed in an eco friendly manner and almost completely self sustained make a difference? Would a desalination plant come into play? In terms of finance, it’s obvious the project would cost a ridiculous unimaginable amount but with an attraction with the same appeal of Vegas, would there be enough money in it to be worth developing it? Tell me your thoughts on this, and go into detail if necessary, more the better. Feel free to raise other questions involved and answer other peoples questions. I find the idea interesting and it seems completely feasible to me since visiting Abu Dahbi and Dubai – It seems construction, engineering and all else related is escalating to a level never thought possible, from speeds of construction to record breaking engineering..
Thoughts???
Australian Travel dvd – www.overlander.tv I interviewed Richard Maddrell, who works in the tourism industry. If someone has a day to spare in Sydney, Richard suggested taking a harbour cruise, and visiting the fish market. Accommodation : www.nomadsworld.com
In Cairns I interviewed Peter Stokes from Cairns Dive Centre. Peter has been involved in the dive industry for the last 15 years. We discussed why Cairns is such a dive mecca. Fantastic underwater shots courtesy of Nembrotha Diving. I also took in a night out at well known backpacker party place, ‘the Woolshed’ and visited the quaint rainforest village of Kuranda. I live in Australia and next year I am going to Disneyworld with my mum. We would like to stay at disneyworld and we can afford to stay at a moderate hotel. But it is very hard to pick the best one just by looking at a website. Can anyone recommend the best hotel from personal experience?
I am doing a project on Rengat for my Indonesian class and it is quite difficult to find information here in Australia. I am writing as though I have just returned from there and need to cover issues such as:

We plan to visit Brisbane this December and bring our 8 year old daughter to the parks( Warner bros, nickelodeon, etc) Its our first time going there and I have no Idea what hotel to book ourselves in. I don’t like asking travel agents, I’d rather choose everything by myself- just to be sure. Is there such thing as a hotel inside the park? It would be a preference, so that it would be easier to go back just in case for any emergencies. If not, what are the nearest hotel that are nice, friendly, good service, reasonable and family friendly hotels, at the same time near in malls, and restaurants. Kindly advise too …a nice hotel in Sydney. We plan to see the harbor and other attractions as well. Many thanks!!
Can I know the etiquette of tipping in Australia? thanks
