Traveling to Boracay?

I’m considering vacationing in Boracay during the holidays (last 2 weeks of December) and have the following questions -
- What is the best way to get to Boracay from Taiwan? I’ve heard either fly to Manila and take a ferry to Boracay or fly directly to an airport closer to Boracay?
- How is Boracay these days? The beautiful beach/sand is very well known but many fear that the island has gotten way too commercialized and croweded. Is it going to be very busy/crowded during Xmas holidays?
- Loding options.. according to the online resource, the average rate seems to be affordable but most hotel/resort website show extremely high rates during the holidays (over 0 USD/night). Is this real?
- How is Boracay compared to other beach destinations around the world such as Hawaii (Maui), Cancun Mexico or Maldives?
- Heard Cebu is a nice beach destination in the Philippines? Is it recommended over Boracy?
Any info is very much appreciated!!!

me and my family are going to hawaii soon, and we dont want to go to a hotel beside the beach… which we do everytime, we want to try something new this time, in maldives there are beach resorts that have houses/ rooms, right above the water, here’s a pic –
